TELONE coach Hebert Maruwa says the three week Premier Soccer League (PSL) break could not have come at a better time for his side as it allows him more time to instill his philosophy and culture in the squad.
The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League will take a break to allow for the senior men’s national team to participate in the World cup qualifiers and the Cosafa tournament.
And the former Dynamos and Black Rhinos gaffer who took over at the WiFi boys over a fortnight ago from Tendai Chikuni has been busy working on improving the team.
The Gweru based outfit is currently 15th on the log standings with 12 points and winless in nine matches.
Maruwa believes the three week break will give him ample time to bring his charges up to speed and be able to compete.
“The break came at a right time, i am having more time with the players to know them more, maybe know their strengths and weaknesses, see who can be able to help us until the end of the season as well as work on combinations and the mental aspects of the players,” he told The Echo Sports.
Under Maruwa, the WiFi boys are yet to register a win in the two matches that he has presided. They drew one all at home to Chicken Inn and narrowly lost 2-1 to Herentals last weekend.
He has identified lack of fitness as one of the major weaknesses in his squad and hopes that he can use the break to fine tune the players’ fitness levels.
“I am worried by the level of fitness, we have played 14 games but the fitness I would say is at about 70 percent,”he added.
“That’s why you saw the guys scored and they could not last 90 minutes, that’s what we want to work on, that is where there is a lot of work to be done.”
