TELONE coach Tendai Chikuni has given a hint that his position at the club is uncertain after his side slumped to a 2-0 loss to Chegutu Pirates at Bata stadium on Sunday.
This was the WiFi boys’ fourth loss of the season and they have now failed to collect maximum points at home for the fourth straight match.
There have been rumours that Chikuni’s job was on the line for several weeks now but after an insipid show on Sunday he all but confirmed that his job is hanging by a thread.
“The nature of our job is result oriented, if you can’t, then you have to either step down or look at other aspects,” said Chikuni.
“There is a lot that has to be looked at to then say how can i protect myself but definitely we have to get back to the drawing board.”
It looked gloomy for the Gweru side as early as the fifth minute when they trailed Pirates courtesy of a Gift Mwinga goal.
The midfielder curled in what appeared to be a harmless free kick from the edge of the box but somehow the ball hit the back of the net with Telone goal minder Matripples Muleya guilty of poor goalkeeping.
The hosts never gave a good fight as they struggled to assert themselves, only getting their first shot on target in the second half, a Malvern Kwinjo free kick.
Pirates got their cushion goal from veteran Cleopus Dube 68 minutes into the match to deliver a sucker punch to the home side.
“Football is about scoring goals, we keep creating chances but failing to score. We will go back to the drawing board and see what happens in the transfer window some of the players are not good enough, they lack quality,” Chikuni questioned his players’ credentials.
Telone are now 14th on the log standings with 11 points. They have managed two wins and five draws losing four times.
Taurai Mangwiro and Saul Chaminuka’s names were previously linked as possible replacements but with the two now at Green Fuel it remains to be seen who will be linked with the job should Chikuni be shown the exit door.
