HIGHLANDERS coach, Kelvin Kaindu questioned his players’ mental strength after the Bulawayo giants threw away a two goal lead to settle for a share of the spoils with Herentals in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro stadium on Wednesday.

A win would have ensured Bosso increased their lead at the summit of the log standings with FC Platinum losing 1-0 at home to ZPC Kariba.

Bosso are now on 15 points level on points with Chicken Inn who edged Hwange 1-0 at Luveve stadium.

“I think that we need to work on is the mental strength and character in the way that we are going to approach our games,” Kaindu said.

A quick fire start to the match saw Highlanders taking an early lead courtesy of a Brighton Ncube goal inside 20 minutes.

The lead was doubled five minutes before the break when youngster Mvelo Khoza’s well taken shot beat Herentals goalkeeper on the near post.

But the Students found their way back into the match with Tafadzwa Jimu heading in a Tino Benza corner kick before Godfrey Mukambi levelled matters.

The Zambian mentor feels his side need to apply themselves better especially in defensive areas.

“It was a good performance in the first half…But the key is to now work on defending better as a team because in both situations the goals could have been avoided,” added Kaindu.
