FORMER premiership side,Chapungu laid the marker in the opening week of the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Beitbridge fc at Ascot stadium on Saturday.
Two first half goals from Edward Watson and Divine Sibanda and a second half own goal was all the Air force of Zimbabwe side needed to start the season on a high note.
Waru Waru as the Gweru side is affectionately known, is one of the favourites for the sole ticket to the premier soccer league together with Sheasham and Tongogara.
Elsewhere, ambitious Gweru side Sheasham found the going tough when they were held to a goalless draw by Dulibadzimu in Beitbridge.
The draw was probably the reality check the construction boys needed given the exuberance and confidence levels amongst their ranks.
Army side Tongogara got off their campaign to a winning start with a 2-1 victory over Black Eagles at the Battlefields grounds.
In Mvuma,it was a stalemate between Dinson Mvuma fc and Wangu Mazodze City on Sunday.
Dinson Mvuma fc coach Joseph Michaels was happy with the draw saying it was the right confidence booster for his side who are debuting in the league.
“Our team played very well despite that it was our first outing of the season as a newly assembled side,” Michaels said.
“The boys managed to hold a team with a lot of seasoned players. We managed to snatch a point and that will help us to grow in confidence as the season progresses.”
