THEY may not have been convincing all afternoon but FC Platinum managed to get the job done with a scrappy 1-0 win over Herentals in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro stadium on Monday.

Herentals had over the past seasons played second fiddle to the Students with matches between the two sides tension filled.

The match had seemed to pan out the same was it has always does in the past seasons as Pure Platinum Play struggled against a plucky Herentals side.

It was midfielder, Brian Banda’s second half goal that changed the script for the Zvishavane side.

“We spoke about shooting from distance, because in the first half, we did not have a shot on target and we knew we needed to at least test the goalkeeper and he (Brian Banda) gave us what we were looking for,” FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza said.

“I am happy for him because he worked hard today and I think with a bit of luck we could have got two or three more goals but at the end of the day I am more than happy with the three points.”

The Zvishavane side remain top of the log standings, joint with Highlanders on 10 points.

Elsewhere, Bulawayo Chiefs got the better of Yadah Stars with a convincing 3-1 victory over the Miracle boys at Luveve stadium.

Bulawayo Chiefs coach Thulani Sibanda praised his side’s abilities and resilience.

“This game i think we started off well.We had a good first half and our transition was very good. One good thing about the team is we have pace upfront and we made that count. We have talent in our team and the experience is something we will gain as we go,” he said.
