CHAMPIONS, Ngezi Platinum Stars’ title defence took yet another dent on Thursday when they were held to a goalless draw by ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga stadium.

The result left the Mhondoro-Ngezi outfit winless in their opening three matches of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, and still to register a goal this season.

That, Ngezi have three of last season’s top goal scorers in Takunda Benhura, Moses Demera and Obriel Chirinda on their books, makes their lack of potency in front of goals difficult to understand.

Demera was given the nod to lead the line against ZPC Kariba while Benhura had to be content with a place on the bench. Chirinda meanwhile, is yet to feature for the miners due to the unresolved contractual dispute with Dynamos.

Madamburo just as they have done in the other two league matches this season failed to score.

“A good point particularly looking at where we coming from as a team, last match against FC Platinum we lost and today we traveled all the way to collect a point, it is good,” said Ngezi Platinum Stars assistant coach Philemon Mutiwekuziva post match.

He however, allayed fears of his side’s profligacy in front of goals saying he was encouraged by his side’s performance.

“We are still building our confidence and rectifying our mistakes especially in front of goals where we are yet to register a goal,” he added.

“Maybe with the way we played and the chances that came our way, we need to keep on having more repetitions on trying to finish, that is the one area of concern.”
