CAPS UNITED got their 2024 Castle Lager Premier league campaign to a losing start with a 1-0 home loss to Chicken Inn at Bata stadium on Saturday.
It was, however, the manner in which Makepekepe lost this match, that should perhaps get their faithfuls concerned.
The Lloyd Chitembwe coached outfit was wasteful in front of goal especially in the first half and were punished by Itai Mabunu’s thumping header on the stroke of half time.
New signing, Ralph Kawondera, Ian Nyoni,William Manondo and Rodwell Chinyengetere were all wasteful as Makepekepe failed to shake off their profligacy from last season.
But in his post match interviews, Chitembwe chose to focus on the positives from the Green machine.
“I thought in terms of performance we were up there, it was encouraging considering this is the first match of the season,” he said.
“In terms of performance I am quite satisfied, very unlucky on our part in terms of the overall result.”
On his side’s lack of cutting edge, Chitembwe said: “What is encouraging is that the most difficult thing is the ability of creating chances, that is the most difficult thing in football but we take positives from the fact that we are able to create opportunities. On the conversion, you would probably say we were a bit unlucky.”
Chicken Inn coach, Joey Antipas was delighted at collecting maximum points on the opening day of the season.
” It is always important to start off the season with a win like we did, it was a difficult game, Caps are a good side but we came up with a good plan however, I think we have a couple of holes that we have to plug,” he said.
