THE Central Region Soccer League will hosts its Annual General Meeting (AGM) this Saturday in Gweru, which is expected to set the tone for the beginning of the 2024 season.

Division one clubs from Matabeleland South and Midlands province will gather on Saturday to deliberate on the forthcoming season.

Chief among the items on the agenda is the issue of sponsorship, where the clubs will review the 2023 season that was sponsored by Ruvimbo Funerals.

Central Region vice chairperson, Dr Thomas Marambanyika said the main focus of the AGM would be centred on football development.

“The region is having its 2023 AGM on Saturday 17 February 2024 to review the previous season and set the tone for the coming 2024 season,” he said.

“The core of the deliberations will be on football development initiatives that will be pursued, competition formats and regional brand management.”

The AGM will give an indication on the number of teams that will be part of the Central Region Soccer League this season.

Last season, the league had 14 teams, however, several teams failed to fulfill their fixtures towards the end of the season due to financial challenges.

But the expectation is that, this season will see more teams coming aboard in the league.

Redcliff based outfit, Wangu Mazodze City, Dinson Mvuma fc, are some of the teams that have expressed willingness to participate this season.

Gokwe North FC, Air Stars and ZRP Black Eagles are rumoured to be bouncing back having previously been part of the league in the past seasons.
