Former Dynamos player and coach David George has died at the age of 71.
George sadly passed on in Harare on Saturday.
He was part of the Dembare side that blazed its trail in the 70s and included the likes of Shadreck Ngwenya,Simon Sachiti,Cremio Mapfumo,Daniel’Dhidhidhi’ Ncube,Oliver Kateya and Ernest Kamba as some of the accomplished names.
It was during those days that George earned the nickname Broom boy for his dribbling skills.
After retiring he went into coaching and was a long time assistant to Sunday Chidzambwa. Together they led the Glamour boys to the 1998 CAF champions league final where they lost 4-2 to Ivorian side Asec Mimosa.
Memory Mucherahowa who captained the 1998 squad poured his heart out over the loss of George.
“Rest in peace bla D. David George,” the former midfielder posted on Facebook.
“Takamboedza kubatsiridzana asi zvakaramba. Mwari vatanha ruva racho. Zororai murugare (We tried all we could but God has plucked his flower, Rest in peace).”
George also had coaching stints with Motor Action as well as Harare City.
