NGEZI Platinum Stars could be crowded Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions today if they win their match against Simba Bhora at Baobab stadium.
Although they are scheduled as the away team, Ngezi have a perfect chance to cement their name in the annals of history in front of their home fans, as Simba use Baobab stadium as their home ground, which ironically belongs to the miners.
The Takusure Chiragwi coached side are on 60 points, seven more than second placed Manica Diamonds who are away to army side Cranborne Bullets.
A win therefore, will guarantee Madamburo the title as they will reach an unassailable total of 63 points regardless of the result between Cranborne Bullets and Manica Diamonds.
And with three matches to go, their closest rivals can only garner 52 points even if they win all their remaining matches.
Ngezi will become only the second team after FC Platinum from outside the two major cities of Bulawayo and Harare to win the league title since its inception in the current format in 1993.
On the other side of the table, the battle for survival from relegation is getting hot with a big clash at Bata stadium between Sheasham and ZPC Kariba.
A loss for either team will complicate their chances of survival. Kauya Katuruturu are two points better than the construction boys who are in the drop zone with 34 points.
And in a bid to drum up support for their team, Sheasham will offer 1000 tickets for free for Saturday’s clash.
“All Sheasham supporters will gain free entrance for the match against ZPC Kariba,” reads a message from one of the supporters social media groups.
