FC PLATINUM’s hopes of a record fifth consecutive title went up in smoke after they were held to a goalless draw by Dynamos at Mandava stadium.
The reigning champions were still in the race for the title, with a slim chance as they trailed leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars by seven points going into the match.
But with Madamburo sailing past relegation threatened Sheasham at Baobab stadium, it effectively makes it almost impossible for the Zvishavane side to retain their title.
The draw leaves Pure Platinum Play nine points behind the leaders on 51 points with three matches remaining in the season.
“I am happy with the point, there was a time when they were 10 men, but usually all over the world, 10 men are dangerous,” said FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza.
“I said it in our last five games, we just have to take each game as it comes and see how it ends at the end of the season.”
Dembare mentor Genesis Mangombe attributed the draw to poor match officiating saying the referees were deciding matches.
The Harare side have now failed to find the target in their last three matches after the 1-0 loss to Manica Diamonds that was followed by a goalless draw against Black Rhinos last week.
“Of course I am disappointed not because of the point but how the match was being officiated especially in the second half,” he said.
Dembare will now have to fight for the runners up medal in their remaining matches of the season with the Chibuku Super Cup final against Ngezi in early December their biggest match of the season now.
“We have to take each game as it comes, we don’t know what these referees have in mind they have been deciding matches so I cannot change it. The way we train is not how things happen on the field, we just have to see in the next match,” added Mangombe.
