FORMER premiership side Shabanie Mine are likely to be punished by the league’s leadership after they arrived late for their Ruvimbo Central Region Soccer League tie against Telone on Sunday.
The miners arrived at Ascot stadium at 1547 and failed to give a satisfactory explanation for their delay and the match eventually failed to take place.
This means log leaders Telone will most likely be awarded three points on a 3-0 score line as is normally the case.
A member of the Shabanie Mine team who spoke to this publication on condition of anonymity said the delay was caused by the team’s failure to secure finances for the trip on time.
“All the news you hear about sponsors coming in is mere pub talk,” revealed the source.
“We almost aborted this trip because we did not have the money to finance the trip. Things only shaped after lunchtime resulting in us departing Zvishavane around 2pm.”
The outcome of this match almost guarantees the Wifi boys promotion back into the premiership.
If they are awarded the points for this match, they will move to 55 points, six more than Tongogara with just three matches to play.
