They may be already out of the running for promotion into the Premier Soccer League (PSL), but Shabanie Mine have started to build the base for a strong challenge next year.
Bvaru Bvaru, as the Zvishavane side are known by their legion of fans have experienced a topsy turvy season this term.
They are currently 10th on the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League log with a measly 18 points and a distant 28 points adrift of leaders Telone.
However, Shabanie Mine assistant coach Chris Moyo feels that they have to make a strong finish to the season and be able to create a launchpad for a title campaign next year.
“Actually we want to finish high in a respectable position,” Moyo said, before adding, “If we continue picking some points it will be good for us and gives us motivation in preparation for next season.”
One of the most supported teams in the country, Shabanie have produced some of the finest talents in the land such Francis Chandida,Max Ruza, Thomas Makwasha, Asani Juma amongst others.
During their peak, the Chinda boys are most remembered for flooring Dynamos in the famous 2001 BP cup.
But the closure of the mine and subsequent drying up of financial resources crippled the team and they have struggled to recreate the magic they produced at the turn of the millenium.
