THE era of sub-standard grounds will soon become a thing of the past in the Central Region Soccer League.
For the past couple of seasons, the lack of proper facilities have become topical in the country.
Teams based in the outskirts and often marginalized communities have generally been accused of using sub-standard facilities.
Following numerous complaints particularly last season, authorities in the region have decided to take action.
At the Central Region Soccer League Annual General Meeting (AGM), clubs agreed to put paid to the matter.
This season, the Central Region resolved to be strict and maintain the integrity of the sport.
“We will be carrying out a grounds inspection exercise very soon,” said Central Region chairperson, Patrick Hill.
“But this time around we will have a neutral committee to oversee the process.
“We will have a member from Matebeleland South, another from Midlands and one person from the secretariat.
“There was a lot of noise on the issue of grounds last season we do not want to have the same issues again this year, so we will be very strict in that regard,” added Hill.
This season, the league will kick off in Mid-March.
The region also increased affiliation fees to US$ 7450 while returning teams will pay US $3940.
There will be six new participants in the Central Region, Good Morning FC from Kwekwe, Sabi Gold Mine (Zvishavane).
Beitbridge based Vhembe FC, Supa Strikers from Gwanda, Shurugwi FC and Kwekwe United who were relegated from the premiership.
These affiliation fees have been driven by the operational costs,” Hill added, stating that the deadline for affiliation is February 28.
“If a team fails to pay their affiliation by the set date, they will not be allowed to participate in the league.”
“Four teams are already waiting to come aboard should there be any drop outs.”
