A dark cloud hangs around Zimbabwean football once again following the tragic passing of three members of the Highlanders executive in a road traffic accident last night.
Highlanders chairperson Col(Rtd) Kenneth Mhlophe, vice,Sifiso Siziba and treasurer, Nkani Khosa.
They were returning from Kariba where their team played against ZPC Kariba on Wednesday, when the car they were driving in was involved in a crash involving several other cars.
The three were reportedly driving in a Ford Raptor when the car crashed near Bulawayo on Thursday night.
An unidentified woman who was in the same car was last night reported to be in a serious condition.
The ZRP is yet to confirm the identities of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has sent their condolences.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) joins the entire nation in mourning the tragic passing of Highlanders Football Club Chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, Vice Chairman Fiso
Siziba, and Treasurer Nkani Khoza, who lost their lives in a devastating road traffic accident,” reads a statement from ZIFA.
“This is an immeasurable loss for Highlanders Football Club, the city of Bulawayo, and the Zimbabwean football family.
“Their unwavering commitment, selfless service and leadership made an enduring contribution to one of the country’s most iconic football institutions.”
The statement adds: “The tragedy is made even more heartbreaking by its timing.As Highlanders Football Club commemorates its centenary year – a landmark occasion meant to celebrate a century of excellence, resilience and pride – the Bosso family has instead been plunged into profound grief.
“On behalf of the Zimbabwe Football Association, its Executive Committee, management,staff and the entire football fraternity, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences
to the families of the deceased, the Highlanders Football Club Executive Committee, players,technical team, members, supporters and everyone affected by this devastating loss.”
