RESIDENTS in the northern suburbs of Gweru are now living in fear after a gang of seven went on rampage terrorizing several families in Brakenhurst and Hertfordshire Phase 2.

According to police reports, the gang managed to break into at least seven houses on the night Tuesday 7 May.

In the process they got away with cash, cell phones and clothing all valued at US $779.00.

ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the seven forced entry into houses armed with machetes and axes which they used to instill fear into their victims.

“It is alleged, the seven men were armed with axes, machetes and metal rods.They invaded Brake Hurst and Hertfordshire residential areas, forced entries into houses and assaulted their victims using machetes and iron rods while demanding money and other valuables,” he said.

“They took away four jackets, one itel cell phone, one nokia cell phone and cash all valued at USD $779.00. They also took away a set of keys for a Toyota corolla motor vehicle belonging to one of the complainants.”

The police are yet to effect any arrests and are appealing to the public for inform that may lead to the arrests of the perpetrators.

Residents in the affected suburbs are now mulling the idea of neighborhood watch committees to complement police efforts in combating crime.

There has been a rise in the establishment of neighborhood watch teams in most suburbs in the Midlands capital with Mambo, parts of Mkoba and Woodlands having similar arrangements.
