A daring Gweru woman has been slapped with a four months jail sentence after she pleaded guilty to physically abusing her husband when she pulled his genitals during a domestic dispute over his salary.
Patricia Mpofu,33 of No 371 Foya road, Old Ascot in Gweru, will however, thank her gods after Gweru magistrate Beaulity Dube wholly suspended the sentence for five years on condition that she does not commit a similar offense.
Mpofu, on Monday appeared in court charged with commiting physical abuse as defined in section 3(1)(a), as read with section 4(1)of the Domestic violence act.
Mpofu pleaded guilty.
The state led by Christine Shoniwa outlined that on the morning of January 13 this year, Mpofu, who was in the company of her husband Bwerinofa Dzinavashe,38, who is the complainant in the matter, had a misunderstanding near Sandara primary school.
It is alleged the misunderstanding came about after Dzinavashe failed to account for his monthly salary. This did not go down well with Mpofu who began shouting and violently attacked her husband.
She picked up a stone and threw it towards the complainant, hitting him on the left hand, she picked another stone and hit him again in his back before pulling Dzinavashe’s genitals.
He reported the matter to the police leading to Mpofu’s arrest.
Dzinavashe told the court that his wife’s actions had brought him a lot of embarrassment and caused friction with his relatives, he, however, pleaded with the court to have leniency towards his wife despite her untoward behavior.
The magistrate slapped Mpofu with a four months jail term which was however, suspended for five years.
