POLICE in the Midlands have launched a man hunt for a 24 year old Chirumhanzu man who is wanted in connection to an attempted murder case.
Akim Mazani of Chikuruhihwa village under Chief Chirumhanzu,is alleged to have have struck his 85 year old grandmother with an axe leaving her seriously injured.
The incident took place on October 20 at Mazani’s place of residence.
According to ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Mazani committed the hideous act around 2300 of the same day.
Mazani had issues with his grandmother Faustina Mazani whom he accused of bewitching and killing his late father.
“Akim Mazani allegedly entered into her bedroom and struck her on the head with an axe while accusing her for killing his father through witchcraft,” Insp Mahoko said.
“The neighbours heard the noise and rushed to Faustina’s homestead to investigate. They found Akim holding an axe in the yard and he ran away upon seeing them.”
Faustina’s life was saved by one good Samaritan who rendered first aid to her before taking her to the nearby St Theresa hospital.
In a related incident, a Chiwundura man lost his life after he was struck by a fellow imbiber at a beer drink for allegedly being a trouble causer in the local area.
The incident happened last Sunday at Gunde shopping centre where the two men were drinking together.
It is alleged that the now deceased Samson Mpofu (57) was drinking with Terrence Solomon (26) when the two men had a disagreement.
Mpofu is said to have left and headed home but Solomon followed him armed with a log and struck him at the back of his head.
Upon realizing that Mpofu was dead, he burned his body. The body was only discovered by a passerby the following morning.
Solomon was arrested and is awaiting trial.
