THE infighting at the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (Zimura) turned ugly on Thursday after three board directors were fired.
In a calculated move that tilts power to the other faction of the warung parties, Alexio Gwenzi, the newly elected board chair axed three of the board members for purportedly destabilizing the ship.
Musicians Derick Mpofu, Joseph Garakara and Gift Amuli were handed their dismissal letters.
The trip is accused of breaching the organization’s code of conduct when they held an unsanctioned press conference on Monday.

At the press conference, the three called for an Extraordinary General Meeting(EGM) and a forensic audit of the organization.
“The removal follows a series of grave breaches of fiduciary duties and conduct prejudicial to the interests of the Association, specifically: Unauthorized Conduct and Misrepresentation,” reads a statement from ZIMURA.
“On the 19th of January 2026, the aforementioned individuals convened an unsanctioned press conference.
“This action was taken without Board approval and in direct violation of established corporate communication protocols.
“During said proceedings, the trio issued unsubstantiated and defamatory statements made without evidence, due process, or any formal legal conviction, thereby bringing the Council and the Association into serious disrepute.”
The statement adds: “The Board has determined that the continued presence of these errant members poses an existential threat to the stability and governability of ZIMURA.
“Their actions were calculated to incite institutional paralysis, which constitutes a direct risk to the collective interests and financial security of the entire Zimura membership.”
The ZIMURA board has been split into two with the trio of Mpofu, Garakara and Amuli on one faction.

Newly elected board chairperson, Gwenzi leads the other camp that also has his vice sungara artist First Farai.
The other camp does not recognize Gwenzi’s leadership and are calling for a fresh election and audit.
