AN ambulance technician from Redcliff Municipality, together with two accomplices have been convicted of theft after they stole from an accident victim.

The three, Edius Mugonegwa (40),
an ambulance technician with Redcliff Municipality,Pride Makamba (25) and Anashe Mukwamba (23) appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrate Court facing theft charges.

They were accused of stealing , US$1,260 cash and US$10 airtime from a road accident victim they were supposed to assist.

It is alleged that on the 7 September 2025, Mugonegwa responded to an accident along the Kwekwe-Redcliff Road.

While administering first aid to the injured person, bloodstained cash fell from the victim’s pocket.

Instead of safeguarding the money, the trio connived to convert the money to their personal use.

After regaining consciousness, the victim discovered that his money was missing and reported the matter to the police.

Investigations by the CID Kwekwe led to the arrest of the three, and part
of the stolen money was recovered.

Mugonegwa was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, with 3 months
suspended for five years; 15 months set aside for 825 hours of
community service.

Makamba and Mukwamba were sentenced to 12 months imprisonment each, with three months suspended for five years; 9 months set aside for 315
hours of community service.
