POLICE in the Midlands have launched a manhunt for 10 suspected robbers in connection with a mine robbery in Kwekwe.

The incident took place in Kwekwe at Tryper Tight Mining syndicate on 29 September at about 0005 hours.

It is alleged that on the morning in question, 10 suspects pounced on Tryper Tight Mining Syndicate.

Four men were working at the mine: Coster Mbirimi of Chief Malisa, Zhombe, Gladman Maphosa of Redcliff, Tinevimbo Makwande of Ivene, Gweru and David Mangena from Makava Village in Bikita.

When Mangena, Makwande and Maphosa sensed danger, they ran away leaving their cell phones behind.

The robbers then attacked Mbirimi using beer bottles and sticks before proceeding to an unsuspecting Muzira who was asleep in a car.

They then broke the car’s windows and pulled him out before assaulting him with an iron bar.

The robbers loaded one tonne of gold ore into a vehicle and drove off taking the cell phones left behind by the three escapees with them.

ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.

“The gang approached Mbirimi, they attacked him with beer bottles and sticks before going for Muzira who was asleep in a car,”he said.

“They broke the car windows, pulled him out and hit him with an Iron bar. They took the cell phones left by the three who ran away.

“The intruders loaded one tonne of gold ore in a vehicle and drove off.”

The value of the stolen gold ore is yet to be determined.

Insp Mahoko appealed to the public to assist with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
