A Redcliff couple was found dead in their house on Valentine’s day in a suspected murder case which led to the arrest of the family’s motor mechanic.

Kenneth Pedzisai Chirashi (75) and his wife, Lorna Taylor Chirashi(69), their bodies were found lying lifeless in the house.

Kenneth had deep cuts on his forehead with a rope around his neck while his wife’s body was found in the bathroom with four deep cuts on the head.

ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said neighbors told the police that they heard screaming sounds in the morning coming from the couple’s residence.

“Police interviewed a neighbour who indicated that in the morning at about 0700 hours he heard someone screaming from Chirashi’s homestead and that after some minutes he saw the suspect Collins Jongwe (34) of Chicago, Kwekwe who is the family mechanic coming out of the Chirashi homestead driving Chirashi’s silver Toyota Hilux,” he said.

Jongwe is currently in police custody where is being held as a chief suspect.

He was arrested in Gokwe driving a silver Mercedes Benz that had no number plates.

The death of the two came to light after Chirashi’s son, Mike called in the evening and the phone was answered by the police who told him that they had arrested a man in possession of his father’s cellphone, identity card and other documents.

Upon hearing this,Mike then called his parents’ neighbour Lamulani Sithole whom he asked to go and check on his parents.

“Sithole went and checked and found the doors locked and could not locate anyone,” Insp Mahoko added.

“He reported the case to the police who attended the scene and observed that all doors were locked. They peeped through the bathroom window and saw a lying human body.”

The police broke the doors and found the bodies of the two already dead, both had injuries on their heads.
