POLICE in the Midlands province have issued an appeal to the public over a deceased body that has been unclaimed since its discovery on the first week of January in Gokwe.
The body was discovered on January 9 floating in a sewer pond and is believed to have been murdered before being dumped in the pond.
ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the deceased body is of a lady approximately aged between 18 to 21 years.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police informs the general public that we are still holding the dead body of a woman believed to have been murdered in Gokwe,” he said
“The body was discovered floating in a sewer pond in Gokwe on 9 January 2024 at about 1800 hours.The body was discovered by a villager who was herding cattle and the case was covered by the media.The body has not been identified and no one came to claim it.”
He added: “We thus appeal for the public to help us.Those with a missing female relative of approximately 18 to 21 years of age may approach Zimbabwe Republic Police, Gokwe, for assistance. Detective Constable Madhongo of Criminal Investigations Department Gokwe is the investigating officer and is contactable on cellphone number 077413893.”
