GWERU City Council(GCC) has warned truant tuck shop owners in the city to desist from selling alcohol.

This comes in the wake of a proliferation of tuckshops in and around the city’s Central Businesses District (CBD).

The tuckshops have gained prominence in recent times slowly replacing the conventional retail shops.

However, some of the tuck shop owners have resorted to selling alcohol contrary to the terms of their operating licences.

This has prompted the local authority to issue a warning to the errant operators.

“Please be advised that the sale of alcohol or any alcoholic substances is strictly prohibited on your premises,” reads a notice from the local authority.

“Failure to comply with this regulation will result in prosecution. Ensure that you adhere to the terms and conditions of your shop licence to avoid any penalties.”
