ZIMBABWE recorded a decline in the number of road accidents during the 2024-2025 festive season according to latest statistics released by the ZRP.
During the period between December 15 and January 15, the country recorded 2936 accidents.
This is a decrease from the 3607 recorded during the same period the previous festive season.
However, there was an increase in the number of fatal accidents from 118 last year to 133.
There was also a decrease in the number of fatalities this time around with 155 deaths compared to 162 during the same period last year.
A total of 938 people were injured which marked a slight increase from 821 the previous term.
ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads to save lives.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges motorists to exercise extreme caution and prioritize road safety, especially at night,” he said.
“Motorists should remain vigilant and attentive to pedestrians crossing the roads to prevent accidents.”
Commissioner Nyathi urged motorists to adhere to the laws of the land when involved in accidents.
“Above all, drivers involved in accidents must stop, render first aid to victims, and report the incident to the police,” he added.
