AT least eight people have died as a result of crocodile attacks in the past two months the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS) has said.

In a statement on Wednesday, Zimparks said at least 20 cases have been reported in the same period.

The Authority noted that eight fatalities have so far been recorded while three people have been left seriously injured.

“Over the last two months, the authority the received over 20 reports with eight fatalities while three people were seriously injured,” Zimparks said.

The country has over the past weeks experienced a prolonged wet spell which has seen rivers flooding.

According to Zimparks, the South East Lowveld has recorded the highest number of human-crocodile conflict cases with six.

The six cases have been recorded in Tokwe,Mukosi, Lundi and lake Mutirikwi.

The central region has five cases drawn from Sebakwe,Kwekwe and Munyati rivers while the mid Zambezi also recorded five cases.

“In the light of these, the authority urges the public to exercise extreme caution around water bodies and remain alert while engaging in domestic activities around these areas to minimize the risk of crocodile attacks,” Zimparks further said.
