PROPHET Walter Magaya on Sunday got a seal of approval from the government in his ongoing stadium construction in Kwekwe.
This, after a senior government official presided over the ground breaking ceremony at the stadium site in Kwekwe.
The Minister of State for Provincial affairs and devolution in the Midlands, Owen Ncube was the guest of honor.
Magaya, in partnership with his business associate, Shepherd Chahwanda, is constructing a 10 000 seater stadium in the mining town.
Named Chahwanda stadium(The Main Heart Arena), the facility is expected to be a game changer in sports in the country.
MILESTONE
It is estimated that the stadium will cost around US$ 10 million to complete.
“Estimated to cost US $10 million, this project will create employment and market our province,”Ncube said.
“This is a milestone achievement to us all in the province and the country.”
Magaya, who is an aspiring ZIFA presidential candidate said when complete the facility will be one of the best.
“We know there is gold beneath, but we said let us play football on the surface and mine the gold at the same time,” he said.
“We are not just building a stadium for 90 minutes, this will go beyond that.
“This is an every day stadium where we are going to create employment through various other initiatives.
“There will be a B arena, go carts, state of the art gym and many others to make it a world class facility.”
Magaya’s partner, Chahwanda also owns a football team, Hardrock fc based in Kwekwe.
The team won the league title in the Zifa Midlands Division 2B and will next season play in the Central Region Soccer League.
Construction at the site has already begun and is expected to be complete by January 15, 2025.
Magaya said his hope was that the facility when complete can be able to host international matches.
