IN a show of unity and progressive thinking, the Gadzi community in Chikomba district, Mashonaland East recently joined forces to construct a bridge using own resources in a move that is expected to improve connectivity with surrounding areas.
The bridge that runs over Mutorahuku river had been damaged and impeding on the community’s access to essential services.
But the completion of the bridge will mark a significant turnaround in the area’s connectivity to other villages due to the improved mobility enhanced by better road networking brought about by the bridge.
The initiative was a culmination of development oriented programming led by three village heads Ebina Chigwende, Mabasa Mudyanevana and Jethro Zifodya.
Together with their community members, they pooled human and material resources together to revamp the structure.
“We are thrilled to see our community come together to address a long standing challenge,” said Chigwende.
“This bridge is more than just a structure, it symbolizes our unity, resilience and determination to build a better future for ourselves as well as for our children.”
Chigwende revealed that plans are underway to embark on a number of development projects such as rural electrification, horticulture and infrastructure rehabilitation.
Efforts are also being made to turn the Gadzi waterfalls into a tourist attraction.
