THE Ministry of Health and Child Care has allayed fears of a resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic saying the flu-like illness that have hit the country are nothing but common colds.
In a statement on Monday secretary for health Dr Aspect Maunganidze said told the nation not to panic.
“The ministry of health and child care would want to reassure the public that the flu-like illnesses seen in the country are due to the common cold,” reads the statement.
“The winter season is associated with increased incidence of common colds and that is what has been seen so far. The cases are neither due to Covid-19 nor other new viruses. There is no viral pandemic in Zimbabwe.”
Over the past few days health facilities across the country have been swamped with patients seeking treatment for flu-like symptoms.
