PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has emphasized the importance of open communication between the government and citizens saying it is paramount in nation building.
Speaking at the first cabinet meeting of the year, that he also chaired, the President urged ministers to maintain ‘an open line of communication’ with citizens adding that citizens’ input in development programs is critical.
“Citizens are the primary beneficiaries of our efforts and open line of communication with them should be maintained, including through active Thematic Working Group discussions.Their input, support and expertise are invaluable in driving sustainable development and ensuring the success of our initiatives,” he said.
The first cabinet sitting comes at a time when the country is reeling under the burden of heavy taxation, price hikes and the exchange rate spiralling out of control.
Mnangagwa said there is need to have fiscal policies that promotes the growth of business in the country, adding that authorities are working on measures to address the anomalies in the economy.
“Prudent fiscal and monetary policies and the promotion of a conducive business environment remain critically important for the stability and growth of our economy,” he added.
“Accordingly, the fiscal and monetary authorities are implementing a raft of policy measures to arrest price increases, stabilise the foreign exchange rate, maintain the value of our currency and ultimately encourage savings.”
