As the world commemorates International Women’s Day on 8 March, Zimbabwe joins the global call to recognize women’s achievements and address the challenges they continue to face.

This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” highlights a powerful truth: when society invests in women, everyone benefits.

Women remain central to Zimbabwe’s development. From small-scale farmers in rural communities to entrepreneurs and professionals in urban centres, women contribute significantly to the country’s economy and social wellbeing. Yet many still face barriers such as limited access to land ownership, financial resources, and leadership opportunities.

Economic empowerment is therefore critical. Supporting women through education, access to finance, and business opportunities can strengthen families and stimulate national growth.

When women succeed, communities become more stable and prosperous.
At the same time, continued efforts are needed to address gender-based violence and harmful social norms that restrict women’s full participation in society.

The International Women’s Day reminds Zimbabwe that empowering women is not only a matter of equality—it is a pathway to national progress.

When society chooses to “give” women opportunities, support, and respect, the entire nation stands to “gain.”
