GWERU – Police in Mberengwa have launched a manhunt for four suspects who allegedly stabbed a commuter omnibus conductor to death with a broken beer bottle following a dispute over bus fare.
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident, which occurred at Ganga Bus Stop along the Mpandashango–Mberengwa Road on October 22, 2025.
He said the now deceased, Munemo Moyo, of Village Majasi under Chief Maziofa in Mberengwa, was employed as a conductor aboard a Nissan Caravan kombi driven by Stanley Masuku.
“Circumstances are that on the day in question, the kombi crew picked up four male passengers at Chief Maziofa Bus Stop while travelling from Mpandashango Business Centre to Mberengwa Business Centre. Upon reaching Ganga Bus Stop, the passengers refused to pay their fares, resulting in a misunderstanding,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said the four passengers attacked Moyo and Masuku with fists before one of them picked up a beer bottle, broke it, and stabbed Moyo on the neck.
“Moyo fell to the ground and died on the spot,” added Insp Mahoko.
The assailants fled from the scene soon after committing the offence, he said.
Inspector Mahoko said police have identified three of the suspects as Tears Mutahwa, Mernard Mtombeni, and Administer Mtombeni, all of Village Feyina under Chief Maziofa, Mberengwa, while the fourth suspect remains at large.
He appealed to members of the public with information that could assist in locating the suspects to report at their nearest police station.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the four suspects to contact any nearest police station,” he said
The body of the deceased was taken to Mberengwa Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
