THE National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it is considering appealing the acquittal by a Harare Magistrate,of three rape suspects.

The three men, aged 34,36 and 34 were part of four men accused of raping a 14 year old form two girl.

The other accused aged 30, was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

It is the State’s case that on 20 October 2024, the complainant left home in the evening after being reprimanded by her mother.

She was lured into the house by one of the accused who offered her accomodation for the night.

The four men threatened her with a knife, beat the girl with a hose pipe before spiking her drink with an unknown substance.

While unconscious, the four men took turns to sexually assault her.

She woke up the next morning in the house of one of the accused with pain on her body and evidence of sexual assault on her body.

The girl reported the matter to her aunt leading to police intervention and medical examinations.

One of the four men was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years in jail.

The other three accomplices were acquitted. However, the NPA is considering appealing the acquittal of the three.
