POLICE in the Midlands town of Kwekwe have arrested a 51 year old man for allegedly murdering his girlfriend.
Christopher Ncube of Machakwi compound, Sherwood in Kwekwe was apprehanded by members of the community in the early hours of Sunday.
This was after Ncube fatally assaulted his girlfriend, Grace Magogodla (31) of the same area.
According to ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the two love birds were having drinks at a local drinking spot.
They were in the company of other patrons at Machakwi beer hall.
Ncube is said to have retired to bed, leaving his girlfriend behind with other imbibers.
Amongst patrons at the joint was Magogodla’s ex-boyfriend, Doubt Chinyanga.
It is further alleged that Ncube heard voices of his girlfriend with another man in the next room.
This is said to have angered Ncube as he became violent against his girlfriend while Chinyanga is reported to have fled the scene.
“Ncube is said to have retired to bed in his room leaving Magogodla drinking with other patrons,” Insp Mahoko said.
“On 3 November 2024 at about 0030 hours it is alleged that Ncube heard the voice of her girlfriend.
“He woke up, armed himself with a log and went to inquire. He found Magogodla together with Chinyanga in the room.
“Upon sight of Ncube, Chinyanga is said to have escaped leaving Ncube and Magogodla having an altercation.”
Insp Mahoko further said that Ncube continued to attack his girlfriend using a log leading to her death.
LOCALS TO THE RESCUE
Local community members teams up to effect a citizen’s arrest on Ncube before handing him over to the police.
“Ncube dragged Magogodla to his room and assaulted her on the head using the log,” added Insp Mahoko
She died on the spot and members of the compound teamed up and apprehended Ncube and a report was made to the Police.”
