LEGENDARY sungura artist Nicholas ‘Madzibaba’ Zakaria has died at the age of 66.
Zakaria reportedly passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning in the capital.
The Khiama Boys frontman had been ill for some time.
News of his passing on was confirmed on the musician’s Facebook page.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nicholas Zakaria, the talented musician and beloved member of our community,” reads the statement.
“Nicholas left an indelible mark on the music world with his inspiring voice and dedication to his craft. His legacy will live on through his music, and he will be deeply missed by fans and loved ones.”
He was also known as Senior Lecturer for his eye for talent and grooming other musicians, Zakaria played a pivotal role in shaping careers of other sungura artists.
Some of his prodiges include the late System Tazvida, Alick Macheso and Zakaria Zakaria.
