Former Tourism and Hospitality minister, Walter Mzembi has been remanded in custody to July 1.

He appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei, who revoked Mzembi’s bail.

He also dismissed Mzembi’s application to have his three warrants of arrest cancelled.

The magistrate noted that Mzembi failed to convince the court on why he defaulted court proceedings.

Ndirowei also argued that, when Mzembi skipped court, he was not as sick as he would want the court to believe.

Mzembi was one of the key figures of the G40 faction that backed former President Robert Mugabe at the height of the factional wars in ZANU PF.

Things went south for the G40 faction when Emmerson Mnangagwa assumed leadership of the party, replacing Mugabe at both party and government level.

This resulted in several of the G40 figures relocating outside the country in fear of retribution by the Mnangagwa led faction.

The ex-minister was arrested last week, days after he had returned back to the country from self imposed exile.

Before his arrest, Mzembi is reported to have sought to meet President Mnangagwa at State house, after which he left the country for Zambia.

He was then arrested a few days later after his return from Zambia.
