ALPHA Media Holdings (AMH) senior journalist, Blessed Mhlanga was today denied bail by Harare Magistrate, Farai Gwitima.
Mhlanga will be remanded in custody to March 14.
In denying him bail, Gwitima argued that releasing Mhlanga would put the nation in unrest as it would undermine peace and security.
He added that if released, Mhlanga as a senior journalist at HSTV, was likely to influence state witnesses, in this case, his juniors at the organization.
Lawyer, Chris Mhike, who is representing Mhlanga said they will appeal against the journalist’s continued incarceration.
Mhlanga is being charged with transmitting data that incites public violence.
He is facing two charges of breaching Section 164 of the Criminal Law(Codification and Reform), Act.
The State alleges that after interviewing war veteran Blessed Geza twice in January and February, Mhlanga went on to transmit Geza’s messages, which incited violence.
The said messages were transmitted through YouTube and the HSTV platforms.
