PREPARATIONS for the World Contraception Day (WCD) commemorations are at an advanced stage, organisers of the event have said.
Mkoba Teachers College(MTC) in Gweru will host this year’s national commemorations.
This year’s commemorations are to take place on September 26, which is the actual day of the commemorations.
Midlands province was supposed to have hosted the event last year, but it was cancelled at the advise of health officials after a diarrhoeal outbreak in Gweru.
But this time around, the commemorations appear to be on course to he hosted this coming Thursday.
Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council, Midlands province monitoring and evaluation officer Kudakwashe Mbedzi said:
“We are pleased to be hosting the event as Midlands province. Last year we were supposed to host this event but could not.
“However, this time around all looks on course for us to be hosting this event on September 26.”
Mbedzi added that the Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Douglas Mombeshora will be the guest of honour.
” Just like last year, the Minister of Health, Dr Douglas Mombeshora will grace the occasion as the guest of honour,” Mbedzi revealed.
“We will also have a lot of stakeholders who will be present at the event providing services there.”
The World Contraception Day is held annually on the 26th of September.
The WCD is a global campaign with the mission to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted.
The day is also meant to help youths access information and services on contraception and have informed choices.
In addition,improve youths’ sexual and reproductive health rights in the country.
Most teenage pregnancies are unwanted and result in youths contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
This year’s commemorations are running under the theme: Contraception, it’s your life it’s your responsibility.
