MEN have been urged to take an active and decision making role in family planning issues in order to enhance sexual and reproductive health.

The call was made by Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council(ZNFPC) Midlands provincial manager Karen Dzuke in Gweru on Friday.

Dzuke was addressing journalists at the sensitisation of the media on the World Contraception day commemorations.

“We are encouraging men to take part in family planning initiatives,” Dzuke said.

“Men must not be silent participants, they must be actively involved even in the choosing of the contraceptive methods to use. So for us male involvement is all about men being part and parcel of decision making in the family planning process.”

She added that her organization has opened a men’s clinic in Gweru and urged all men to make use of this facility.

“Now we have a men’s clinic every Friday , the idea is for men to walk in and access services such as prostate cancer screening. Men have poor health seeking behavior but we urge them to utilize this opportunity and get health services for free,” she added.

The World contraception day commemorations will this year be hosted by the Midlands province and will be held at Mkoba Teachers College on Friday 17 November.

Minister of Health and child care, Dr Douglas Mombeshora is expected to be the guest of honor.
